The full chilling police interrogation and detailed confession of Elizabeth Wettlaufer, a Canadian nurse working in a long-term care home who was convicted of eight counts of first-degree murder for her purposeful killing of patients under her care; PART ONE of THREE.
Wettlaufer killed her elderly victims at the three long-term care facilities where she worked between 2007 and 2014, and at a private house. She also pleaded guilty to attempting to kill four others. Her guilty pleas on June 1, 2017, make her one of the most prolific serial killers in Canadian history — and the most prolific female serial killer.
Far from being a misguided angel of mercy, she was a mean, vindictive woman struggling to cope with the demands of her job and substance abuse. She killed one victim after he kicked out at her and yelled at her. She said “enough is enough” before injecting him with insulin. She sometimes put the blame on God for guiding her actions. “This must be God because this man isn’t enjoying his life at all,” she said of the feeling she got over a killing.
Her two-and-a-half-hour videotaped confession came on Oct. 5, 2016, after agreeing to an interview with Woodstock Police following an appointment she had with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. She spoke with Det. Const. Nathan Hergott.
